We begin with the early Spanish invasion of the local Calamari Indians, moving onto the military events and assaults from pirates, privateers, corsairs and buccaneers throughout the colonial period. Also we will touch upon the wars of independence that lead to the creation of the national army.
We will draw the line to the creation of modern day national warring factions and the creation of guerrilla groups such as FARC, ELN and M19.
Furthermore we talk about the emerging Medellin and Cali drug cartels with their prominent leading figures Pablo Escobar, Rodrigo Gacha and the Rodriguez brothers. With the drug cartels we saw the beginning of paramilitary groups, narco guerrilla.
